{{It is Friday. Today I link with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Friday. Here is how it worksΓ’β¬Β¦. One word prompt. Five minutes. No editing. Lots of women. Everyone writes on the same word. Equals a great time.}}
Today’s Word …. FLY.
I am sitting here in disbelief….Can this really be the word?
Can I just say, “Easy, peasy?”. This is the easiest FMF prompt yet. Not that I have done very many but still.
I finished reading Freefall to Fly by Rebekah Lyons on Wednesday night. I had bought it back in June, as it was part of my summer reading. Each time that I picked it up, I put it back on my shelf, deciding the time was not yet to be. But this week, I read it and knew in my heart that the timing had been perfect. This will be one of my favorite books. It is underlined and written in, throughout the entire book. I loved this book.
Fly is what I want to do.
OK, I do not have a fear of flying in a plane. And I have no desire to fly like a bird so I will never attempt any aerial sport. But I have wanted to fly. I want to feel free in my own skin. In whatever gifts the Lord has deemed to give me. I want to take flight, use them and somehow live a life that brings Him glory.
I saved a quote that I read a while ago….
It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. (C.S.Lewis)
I’m feeling challenged. Space is getting tight in this egg. I want to hatch. And fly. Or maybe soar….
They will soar high on wings like eagles. (Isaiah 40: 31b, NLT).
This morning I joined Lisa Jo at Five Minute Friday and Fellowship Fri. and Friendship Fri. and Faith Filled Fri. and Fun Fri. Blog Hop and Faithful Fri. Blog Hop and Fri. Flash Blog and Essential Fri. and Womanhood With Purpose .
“And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad. (C.S.Lewis)” Love this quote too!
I loved the quote when I read it. We really would stay in our comfort zone if we could. But we would never grow. Let’s hatch!
You know there are so many ways to “fly” in life. I can get “high” in so many ways by just appreciating the life I have been given. So, I do not fear flight so much as I fear “falling.” You know, leaving or losing that “space” by tripping, stumbling or tumbling to a low, knowing the journey upward again will be a new challenge. Just wondering if I have the strength to do it a gain..Yes, I guess my pride gets in the way. Grand post! Wishing you well!
Yes, we can fear the fall as much as the flight. Funny, that you said that. As I continued to think on this today, I read, “You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.” (Exodus 19:4). I realized today that even in falling, He is yet carrying me. Whether in flight or in falling, He is always with me. And you too π Thanks for sharing with me today!
Dear Joanne
Oh, I just love this quote of C.S. Lewis. Yes, we need to hatch from the cocoon of self and become a butterfly to our Lord Jesus’ glory. I like your idea of being free and comfortable in your own skin. It sounds easy, my friend, but we know from experience that it is not! Happy flying this weekend to you.
Blessings XX
Mia
Mia – You are so right that it is easier said than done. But in Him, we can do it!
Blessings, friend!
Joanne
I love the quote by C.S. Lewis and love what so many are sharing today on this word fly. Super cool how so far all are turning to the verse from Isaiah. On the wet and dreary day in Chicago I feel as thought I’m flying…Love how He give us just what we need. Love how He gives us beautiful friends to get us through what could be the darkest of days. Instead…my heart soars. I sure hope that all came out as I wanted. π
As dearest Mia said, Happy flying to you….
Love you.
I’m SO excited for next Wednesday!!!!
Beth
It has been wet & damp here in Reading today as well. I had never heard that CS Lewis quote until earlier this week. I loved it. So glad I shared it too π
Stopping by from FMF. I thought the same thing about this prompt: easy. It was almost hard to decide which way to go with it my mind had so many thoughts. I’ve heard a lot of good about the book you referenced and you’ve given me more incentive to read it. Nice post and good take on the prompt. Thank you.
Thank you for stopping here a bit today. It truly is a wonderful book & will speak to your heart. It is one that I will read again. Have a great weekend!
Hi Joanne! Like just about everyone here, I love that quote! Leave it to CS Lewis to tell us exactly what we need to hear. It sure is cozy in our cocoons, but we have break out and see what’s on the other side.
I love the fact that you want to fly. Be free. That’s what you were born to do, so I’ll be your biggest fan (pun intended!) as you soar!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ceil
Ceil – I had never read that quote before & I just loved it when I came upon it earlier in the week. I am so glad that I shared it as so many mentioned liking it. We would so stay in our comfort zone if given the chance. And today, I am grateful that He pushes me out as need be. Some days, He gives me the big heave ho ! Loved your pun & humor too π
Enjoy your weekend!
Joanne
“I want to feel free in my own skin. In whatever gifts the Lord has deemed to give me. I want to take flight, use them and somehow live a life that brings Him glory.” Oh AMEN! Have a beautiful weekend.
You too, Barbie! May you get to relax a bit too!
My favorite part was also what Barbie quoted! How cool that the word this week went along so nicely with what you have been reading! I was stumped when I first saw it.
It was very fun that the prompt lined up with my reading! And may I say, it is a great book! I love when God works that way in my life. May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Getting tight in the egg….hmmm….wondering if that’s what I’m feeling. Thanks for this post. It’s got me thinking.
May He show you exactly what it is you are feeling & provide the way out π So glad that you stopped here! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
