So I am a little behind in my Scripture reading plan. But this morning as I read, I am convinced that I am truly right on schedule 🙂 I so needed to read what I just read.
In the middle of a three year season of drought, after the mighty showdown against the prophets of Baal, Elijah climbs to the top of Mount Carmel, bows to the ground & prayed with his face between his knees. He sends his servant multiple times to, “Go & look out toward the sea.†The servant each time returns & says, “I didn’t see anything.â€
But on the seventh time, his servant tells him,†I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.â€
Upon hearing that, Elijah says,†Hurry! Get back into your chariot & go home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!â€
Are you kidding? A little cloud on the horizon raises the anticipation levels?
Yes, that is how faith works.
All Elijah needed was a little glimpse & he knew. He believed it heralded the terrific rainstorm he had been hoping & praying would come. A cloud the size of a man’s fist. Read the story for yourself in 1 Kings 18.
Today I am challenged….
What small glimpse into my situation have I been given that God is working in my situation? Responding to my prayers?
Today may I be like Elijah & run (!!) home to wait for the full rains! May I believe that the small sign is indicative of greater things on the horizon.
Today I linked with Still Saturday .
I like that. Believing, no–knowing–that a cloud the size of a man’s fist will bring a rainstorm. A good lesson. Thank you.
