Very short thoughts this morning:
                                        Obedience to God = Blessing
                                        Disobedience = Consequences
That is just the way it goes. We know it yet the struggle can be so great at times.
God leads & directs, shows us things in His Word, raises a red flag at times in situations to show us His way. Then the choice is ours. Ours alone.
The Tyndale Bible Dictionary defines obedience:
“The act or instance of submitting to the restraint or command of an authority; compliance with the demands or requests of someone over us.”
E.M. Bounds described it this way:
“In principle, obedience to God is the same quality as obedience to earthly parents. It implies, in general effect, the giving up of one’s own way, & following that of another; the submission of oneself to the authority & requirements of a parent.”
Let there be no doubt…obedience presents a great struggle in all of us from very young. Think even of the struggle that lies within a toddler. Heck, just this week in Sophia’s pre-K class, a little boy responded that he did not have to do what the teacher was telling him to “because she was not his mother.” We learn from very young who we are to obey. And this little guy will be learning quickly that, YES, there are other authority figures in his life now 🙂
May we choose to obey Him at all times. It is not only for our own benefit but for those that will come behind us.
“Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever” (Deuteronomy 5:29 NIV)
