Early mornings have long been my favorite time of the day, especially when they are unhurried. It is in the stillness and quiet darkness my soul can take refuge in God’s Word.
A few days after the time change, the sky was especially beautiful, bursting forth with the message penned by the prophet Jeremiah:
“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, NASB)
Stepping out onto the back deck, I snapped a few photos, and found myself humming an old song. It’s funny how those come back to memory, especially when they are Scripture and truth:
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
His mercies never come to an end.
They are new ev’ry morning, new ev’ry morning,
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord,
Great is Thy faithfulness.”
There is much promise and hope to be found in those two verses. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses toward His people will never cease. His compassions will never fail to be extended toward us. His mercies are new every morning. His faithfulness is great towards us.
But only when I stepped back out to take yet another photo, because the color was only getting increasingly spectacular, did something hit me.
God’s mercies never come to an end. Even more amazing is that His mercies are new every morning. Each day we experience His mercy in a way we had not ever before experienced.
His mercies are new and specific for each day. It’s when the day is a challenge, or the bottom falls out, that we come to realize our God has always been, always is, and always will be faithful.
Don’t miss the early morning skies!
May we never take for granted that His mercies are NEW every single morning!
“How We Prepare Him Room” is a beautiful post by Natalie Ogbourne in both words and photos. “Prepare him room isn’t an addition. It’s a practice and a posture. It’s an invitation.” You can read her post HERE.

His mercies, new every morning, much like fresh manna!
The early morning sky can bring peace and comfort. Viewing the beauty of God’s creations and hearing the sounds of birds singing makes me smile. I am thankful for His blessings. Have a blessed week! 🙂
What a lovely, encouraging post. Thank you for sharing it to remind us of this important truth. I gravitate to the hope of that scripture in the same way I’m drawn to the sky. Sometimes I wonder if part of the reason God made the sky so lovely is to get us to take our eyes off our circumstances and move them toward him.
What a lovely surprise to see that you shared my post. Thank you so much for that!
Joanne, what a spectacular sunrise that must have been! I love this post. I never thought God’s mercies in the way you shared. What an amazing thought that He knows what kinds of mercies we’ll need each day, and He provides them. Such a timely truth for me to cling to.
Beautiful photos. So thankful His mercies never cease!
Spectacular photos Joanne! I love the quiet solitude of early mornings too. The beauty of the skies often remind me of God’s unfailing love and mercy. Beautiful post!
I’m so thankful for mornings with Him, Joanne! And thankful His mercies are new every morning because of His faithfulness! Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos!
Thank you for giving me new thoughts on that passage! His mercies are neverending, but always experiencing it in new ways each and every day. Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus!
What a magnificent sky Joanne! And such a beautiful post. Thank you sweet friend.
Bless you, Jennifer

Amen Ms. Joanne. I think the early morning is the favorite part of my day too. I love starting it with God before the world starts to invade my day and vie for my attention. Lovely post my friend.
This is such a fantastic reminder of God’s mercy and how amazing and gracious he is. Thank you!
I love how you had to get back out and take another picture of the beautiful sunrise that particular morning. Sometimes we turn away too quickly from God’s mercies and get wrapped up in the worries of the day. I know I do. May I remember to turn back to God and stay in His merciful presence.
Your sunrise photos are spectacular, Joanne! And I love the thought that God’s mercies are new each morning AND specific for that day’s problems and struggles. So encouraging!
