Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Generous.
Generous … “liberal in giving or sharing, unselfish; free from meanness or smallness of mind or character, magnanimous” (from dictionary.com).
The definition had my attention as I sat looking at it for a few minutes.
When we are generous, liberal in giving, and free from meanness or smallness of mind, we display Christ (in us) to those around us.
Magnanimous is being generous in forgiving others when they have hurt us.
Christ gives to us liberally and abundantly. These words are used in Scripture to describe the ways in which He gives to us. He offers grace and mercy without measure.
The world is in need of those who will step up, think bigger, do more, and go further.
Christ calls us to be a generous people, to let Him transform our hearts until we have a heart like His.
And when we do, we are blessed.
“He who is generous will be blessed.”
(Proverbs 22:9, NASB)

Today I may be joining …
I’m liberal in sharing
my plain old-fashioned thought,
that to be seen as caring,
we really truly ought
to step right up, yes, to the plate,
in the arena standing tall,
accept that we might gain a fate
that we won’t like at all,
but that, in generosity,
we take this path to heart,
and embrace the destiny
of becoming part
of the long chain of martyrdom
that His Kingdom may soon come.
Andrew, well said – may we take the path of generosity to heart and live it well!
Short and simple, down to earth advice. As Christians, we should be generous in the ways you mentioned. Good blog.

Beautiful blogpost. Christ calls us to be a generous people. That is right. Sometimes, starting with the simple steps is the best step that we can take. And a little prayer can help us. A prayer for open eyes to see others who God sees them.
“You have not lived until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.†— John Bunyan
Amen. May we have our eyes opened to see as God sees.
Thank you for this challenge to be magnanimous! We who are forgiven much are called to love much!
Your picture of the tomatoes reminds me of how generous God is. We plant one tiny seed and the abundance of food that comes through His nourishment is amazing!
Yes! God can do much with little!
So true Christ’s generosity is more than we could ever ask for or imagine, He never stops loving or giving to His kids.
huh, I never thought about the generosity of forgiveness.
Thanks for the nudge!

When I saw the word “magnanimous” in the definition, it stopped me right there. It’s something to think on for sure.
i love that we can be generous because of who He is and what He’s done. left to our own devices it’d most likely be a whole different story …
