Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. The prompt this week is … Breathe.
“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7, NKJV)
The word, “breathe”, means “to take air, oxygen, etc., into the lungs and expel it; to inhale and exhale” (dictionary.com).
In the beginning, God created all things. The heavens and the earth; all the vegetation was growing lush with fruits. But there was no man to cultivate the land.
It was then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the earth. With His very own hands, He molded and pushed the soil and formed man.
And it was then God breathed the breath of life, His very own breath, into the being of man. It was the very first time that CPR was performed and man became a living being.
With His very own breath in man, God could not commune and dialogue with humans. His breath gave life and continues to give life to this very day.
On those days when life can seem to suck the air right out of our lungs, His Spirit breathes life back into our beings sustaining us by His Spirit.
In 2 Corinthians 4:13-14 it says:
“It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.”Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself” (NIV).
As we read and breathe in His Word, the very words of life, we speak out words of life and believe. We have hope of being raised up to life.
We are enabled to breathe and …
“Therefore we do not lose heart.”
(verse 16)
Today I am joining …
Breathe in His Word – the creative power of God, which brings life! Great reflection Joanne, thank you 🙂
Good morning, Joanne! This post is beautiful. I love “On those days when life can seem to suck the air right out of our lungs, His Spirit breathes life back into our beings sustaining us by His Spirit.” Such a gift we have in the breath of the Spirit! Thanks for writing. Your writer friend, Karen (FMF #7)
beautiful reminder and words to ponder. Grateful that as long as we are drawing breath, we can draw near! God bless!
♫He’s the breath in my lungs, so I pour our the praise♫
A beautiful reflection on breathing. When I think about that verse in 2 Corinthians, I can hardly comprehend that the SAME breath that gave Jesus His resurrection is the breath living in me. Amazing.

Next time life is sucking the joy out of me I am going to ask for CPR from God 😊 God bless Loretta x
I wish that God would breathe to me
a gentle touch of hope,
for it’s gone dark, and I can’t see,
at the end of my last rope.
I wish His breath might just restore
my heart’s old upward lift,
the joy and light I felt before
all my dreams were killed.
I wish that He might breathe new life
so I could face at length
the deadly glint of cancer’s knife;
Lord, I’ve lost all my strength!
Dear Father, Holy Ghost, and Son,
please breathe on me; I can’t go on.
Great application for the prompt – and wonderful verses to meditate on this afternoon!
I love breathing in God. Thank you for this beautiful reminder. I am so glad you shared your words with us at Grace & Truth Link-Up.
I love this reminder! God provides our very breath and he knows our beginning from our end.
