“Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones he wanted to go with him. And they came to him.” (Mark 3:13, NLT)
This one verse read last week stuck to my mind all week and pointing me to the importance of being with Christ each day.Â
“He called out the ones he wanted to go with him.”
Jesus calls out to me, to each one of us, to spend time with Him because He wants us. He wants to go through our day, our moments, with us. And He wants us to go through our day with Him.
“No Christian work can be carried on for any length of time without frequent talks with Christ. We need His sympathy, approval, guidance and strength.” (Dr. Henrietta C. Mears)
Our lives contain “Christian work” each and every day – raising our children, washing the dishes, missions, kind acts, visiting the sick, spreading hope, and prayer. All that we do can be Christian work.
It is as we spend time with our Father, on the very pages of His Word, we shall find He will ground us, teach us, keep us on the right path and help us to be more like Him.
Jesus called out to these disciples to go with Him, and He calls to us as well …
“For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.”
(Romans 8:29-30, NLT)
In this passage, Paul explains God has called us into His family for the purpose of bearing a family resemblance. His desire is for us to be like Him so that others will see Him in us. The similarities will be evident.
Spend time with God each day in His Word. He calls out to each of us faithfully and daily.
He wants us.
We are chosen and called.
He wants us to go with Him.
Today I am joining … #DreamTogether and Moments of Hope and Soul Survival and Inspire Me Monday .
Dear Joanne, what sweet, comforting, affirming words! There are no “accidental” Christians. How amazing that the Creator of All knows and calls us by name. Thank you for the reminder of His tender love for us.
And He has called you, Alice! I am grateful for your gentle thoughts every time. Thank you!
It took me a long time to realize that my ‘calling’ was in the mundane–dishes, dirty diapers, meal prep, conversations with toddlers–Keeping in constant contact with the One who called me sure helps!
It is so true, Anita. I realize my calling involves much of the same and some days, I truly struggle with that. It is only as I remain focused on Him that I can embrace “my calling” 🙂
