“While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from the essence of nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume over his head.” (Mark 14:3, NLT)
“He who believes in Me … out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” – and hundreds of other lives will be continually refreshed. Now is the time for us to break “the flask” of our lives, to stop seeking our own satisfaction, and to pour out our lives before Him. Our Lord is asking who of us will do it for Him?
(from My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers)
Today I am joining … Give Me Grace and Spiritual Sundays and Word of God Speak .
I’ve never thought of it this way before, but it seems we don’t mind the image of “pouring” ourselves into something.
But the breaking.
This is a different and more painful part of the process. Thanks be to God that He is in the whole process of becoming One.
The verse and Oswald Chambers words today are affirming for my own life. I have been ready for awhile to follow God’s calling. I do not want to serve myself but instead work for God.
As you know there have been several big life changes recently and as hard and joyful as they are these needed to take place so I am fully available for God. Perfect words for me today.
I’ve heard it said that brokenness always proceeds blessing. Jesus took the bread, broke it, then blessed it. There was a beautiful song back in the day that had the words, “broken and spilled out, just for love of You Jesus”. I want that to be the state of my heart toward Him.
That same song went through my head almost the same second I read the words of the title of this post. I love that song! Now loving the breaking, that’s another story. But I agree with Oswald Chambers. We need to “stop seeking our own satisfaction, and to pour out our lives before Him.”
Can you imagine the impact we could have for His kingdom if all of us would do that? May the Lord help us to take that last timid step toward Him, willing to be used of Him, even if it involves breaking.
After a speaking session when I shared how broken I was, a friend came up to me and said, “Broken vessels often carry the most water!”
